Take Note
Portal Configuration Plan
Configuring a portal takes time, planning, and revision. Be sure to consider the following:
- Evaluate the current portal. Is there information/links that aren't being utilized? If so, use this as an opportunity to only bring over the content from the portal that is relevant. In other words, this is a great chance to clean up resources and start fresh in the new Pathify portal.
- Consider the roles that will have access to the Pathify portal. What Tools/Groups/Pages would be useful for students versus what would be useful for faculty? Plan what each role's portal view will look like.
- List out all the information/links to move over to the Pathify portal. Categorize them by user role and decide if they should be Tools, Groups, or Pages.
See an example below:
Information/links | Role(s) | Tool, Group, or Page? |
---|---|---|
APA Style Guide & Resources | Students | Page |
Canvas (LMS) | Faculty, Students | Tool |
Student Orientation | Students | Group |
Portal Configuration Planning Spreadsheet
Use our portal configuration spreadsheet as a guide for planning out what Tools, Groups, and Pages will be available for each role.
To obtain an editable copy of the configuration spreadsheet, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
Consider the following guidelines:
- The menu should only contain items that are frequently accessed by a user. A user should have no more than 10 Pages and 10 Tools added to their menu.
- When too many items are added to the menu, it becomes overwhelmingly long and items are more difficult to find/access. Too many clicks and too much scrolling is required to access frequent links.
- Users can/should access Tools and Pages that are infrequently used from ‘All Tools’ and ‘All Pages’ respective homepages and from global search.
- Menu categories should be used sparingly. Categories can help to segment information when used appropriately, but they can also increase the length of the menu and result in too many clicks to find key information if overused.
Portal Configuration Evaluation and Review
Effective evaluation and review will provide a valuable experience for end users.
Consider the following practices:
- Meet with other departments and ask them to evaluate their current portal content and collaborate on transferring the updated/revised content to the Pathify portal.
- Establish a review process for all the information being transferred to the Pathify portal.
